Ultimate Bird Of Prey Photography Day

​​The ultimate photography bird of prey day is based at various sites around
the Rothiemurchus estate in the Cairngorms National Park and
allows you to photograph each species in their most natural environments.
This will include the following:
​​
White tailed eagle in a simulated fishing scene over one of our lochs.
We will be able to give you 6 attempts to photograph the eagle fishing, flight shots and stationary shots.
​
Bald Eagle in the same simulated fishing scene over our loch.
We will be able to give you 4 attempts to photograph the eagle fishing.
​​​
Peregrine Falcon in open hill ground, flight shots consist of the falcon circling and then diving/stooping as well as feeding shots plucking food on ground in heather.
​​​
Great grey owl in one of the estates beautiful forests, which will include flight shots through the forest, stationary shots in trees and on the ground.
​​​
Barn owl in and around a stone built farm steading, which will include flight shots and stationary shots.
​​
Golden eagle on a breath taking hill side in the heather, this will consist of flight shots, static shots plus a simulated hunt and feeding in the heather.
​
Goshawk or Harris Hawk in the forest, our goshawk will only be available to photograph from October to February and out side of these months will be replaced with our Harris hawk. You will have opportunities to photograph them in flight through tight spaces in amongst the trees, stationary feeding and on a simulated hunt.

Scottish Wildcat & Badger
Dusk Till Dawn Photography Hide

New for 2026 The Scottish Wildcat and Badger Photography hide.
Based on the Rothiemurchus Estate in the Scottish Highlands near Aviemore, our Scottish Wildcat and Badger night photography hide offers an opportunity to photograph two of Britain’s most elusive mammals under the cover of darkness.
The hide is based in woodland and overlooks a secluded clearing within the forest with natural moss covered fallen trees and stumps.
We currently are running on a 90% success rate for badgers and the critically endangered Scottish wildcat visiting the hide each night. Designed for nocturnal photography, the hide allows photographers to capture these remarkable animals without disturbing them.

Inside, the hide seats 4 people (exclusive use will be required to book 4 spaces) and the setup allows for eye-level images while remaining completely concealed.

General Conduct/Rules
-
Maintain Silence: Speak quietly and avoid loud noises to prevent startling wildlife and disturbing other visitors.

Minimise Movement: Move slowly and keep movements to a minimum when inside the hide to avoid attracting attention from animals.

Mobile Phones: Switch mobile phones to silent mode and keep phones under your shelf on the dimmest setting. (The wildcat will see the light coming from the hide if this is not followed). Sound is not allowed to be played from your phone at any time earphones must be worn.

No Flash Photography: Use cameras without flash to avoid frightening animals. The hide is flood lit.

Silent shooting modes only when taking pictures.

No Littering: Take all rubbish with you when you leave, including food wrappers and tissues.

Emergency toilet: is only to be used in emergency situations as using the toilet could disturb the animals and cause them not to show.

Once in the Hide: you are not permitted to leave the hide until 12am and then if you choose to stay longer you are not permitted to leave until 1 hour after dawn. When leaving the hide at 12am do so quietly following the track with a dim lit torch.
Hide Etiquette

Share Space Considerately: Be mindful of others in the hide and make space where possible.

Limit Use of Equipment: Use the shelfs provided and never put lens out of the pipes provided. One set up you are not permitted to move your camera or lens once the animals are in view. Pick the shot/area you want to photograph and keep cameras completely still.

Keep Doors Closed: Always close the hide door quietly behind you to prevent disturbing wildlife and to maintain the hide’s concealment.

Clean Up: Leave the hide as you found it, ensuring all personal belongings and rubbish are taken away.

Be Prepared: Dress appropriately for the cold weather and bring necessary supplies such as water and food.
Anybody being found to not be adhering to the rule will not be permitted to use the hide again.
Moorland Raptor Photograghy Workshop

New for 2026 we are excited to introduce a new Photograghy workshop focusing on moorland Raptors. This workshop will be held on a local estate near the town of Grantown on spey, with exclusive access to over 10,000 acres of moorland. We will spend around 4 hours photographing our birds in this environment, shot will include take off, flight, landing and static . The Birds will include Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin Falcon and Gyr Falcon.

Buzzard and Woodland bird Photograghy Hide

Day time woodland bird and buzzard Photography hide is done in an 4 hour session from 11am to 3pm. Woodland birds range at the hide, to date we have regular visits from nuthatch, tree creeper, woodpeckers, tits and many more. There is also the opportunity of photographing the local buzzard who comes in most days for a meal. With moss covered stumps, fallen trees and light entering a clearing of the forest you will be able to capture great natural images.
